In the Garden this Month…

Our cool and wet spring is helping our lawns recover from damage caused by last years’ heat and drought. Now we can locate areas that aren’t recovering and need some extra topdressing & seeding. Other tasks to complete!

  • Clear debris in beds & uncover heeled-in roses and tender plants
  • Trim winter dieback and yellowing tips of evergreens
  • Transplant out overcrowded perennials & mulch beds
  • Spray suseptible trees such as Crabs & Hawthorns for fungal disease
  • Fertilize trees and shrubs

Check out these new container plants our horticulturist hopes to use this season:

  • Begonia 'Sparks Will Fly' with tangerine orange flowers maturing later in the season to more yellow & contrasting rich dark foliage & rounded mound habit.
  • Begonia Million Kisses series is bred to be the most vigorous trailing Begonia on the market and includes Devotion (dark pink), Romance (light salmon), and Elegance (soft pinks),

Our garden design focal point is inspired by the gardens at Vaux le Vicomte. The parterre à l'anglaise design was derived from pattern illustrations found in La Théorie et la pratique du Jardinage, 1709, di Dezallier d'Argenville. This book can be found by going to these locations . In order to transfer the pattern to the lawn, a drawing was converted to a set of coordinates & layed-out on the lawn by using bamboo stakes and twine.

Welcome Abbey Logterman —
Our New Horticulturist

 A native of Wisconsin, Abbey has worked at major resorts and golf courses throughout the Lake Geneva area. Inspired by the prairie-style perennial gardens at Grand Geneva Resort, originally designed by Roy Diblik, she has chosen to pursue a career in horticulture. She is completing her formal horticulture education at Gateway Technical College in Kenosha.

With her positive attitude and creative touch, we consider ourselves fortunate and are glad to have her part of our team!
